Online Notary Process

Remote Online Notary

Remote Online Notarization (RON) makes it easy to get your documents notarized from anywhere, at any time. Through live online notary video session, RON allows you to connect with an online notary public who verifies your identity, oversees the signing, and applies a digital signature certificate and an electronic notary seal. This process is secure, fast, and saves you the hassle of meeting with a notary in person. RON is a convenient way to notarize documents without leaving your home or office.

Online Notary Public

An online notary public is a traditional notary who has applied for and received an online notary commission issued by the secretary of state authorizing the performance of an online notarization. An online notary public may perform all the notarial acts of a traditional notary. At the time of the online notarization, the online notary must be physically in their commissioning state but the signer or principal can be located anywhere in the world.

Signer/Principal

In an online notarization, you don’t have to meet the notary in person. Instead, you connect with the notary public over a live audio-video call using our Platform, which counts as appearing in front of them. You can be anywhere in the world while on video with the notary during the live online notary session.

Identity Verification of the Principal / Signer

The notary public must verify the identity of the principal using the identity proofing and credential analysis standards set forth under the governing notary law of Texas, USA. Identity proofing is performed through dynamic knowledge-based authentication (KBA) questions. The credential analysis is performed on the signer’s remotely presented government-issued photo ID using automated third-party software processes that confirm the credential’s integrity and personal details.

Online Notary Live Session

The signer and the online notary meet over a secure and authorized audio-video live notary session, where they both review an interactive digital version of the document called ‘Electronic Document’. The signer digitally signs the document, and the notary confirms it’s the same one submitted for notarization. The entire online notarization live session is recorded and securely stored, with access restricted to authorized participants only.

Digitally Signed and Sealed Notarial Certificate

The notarial certificate for an online notarization must clearly state that the notarization was done online. The notary completes the notarial certificate by adding a personal digital signature and electronic seal. This digital certificate is secure, uses advanced encryption technology (public key infrastructure and is X.509 compliant), and meets industry standards to prevent any changes to the document after signing.
